One of the most impactful programs for youth is the European Solidarity Corps (ESC), which supports young people in contributing to society through volunteering, work placements, and solidarity activities.

What is the European Solidarity Corps (ESC)?

The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is an initiative launched by the European Union to encourage young people to engage in meaningful volunteer work, internships, and projects that address societal challenges, promote social inclusion, and foster solidarity across Europe. It offers opportunities for young people aged 18-30 to participate in volunteer activities, gain professional experience, and make a positive impact in their communities.

The ESC program focuses on creating inclusive, diverse, and impactful opportunities that help young people develop new skills while contributing to society. Through ESC, young volunteers and participants can make a difference by supporting communities in need and tackling various issues, including youth unemployment, social exclusion, and environmental challenges.

Types of ESC Opportunities

  1. Volunteering ProjectsVolunteers can participate in various social, environmental, and educational projects that help improve the lives of others. Whether it's working with disadvantaged groups, supporting environmental sustainability, or assisting in community development, ESC volunteers contribute to meaningful causes.

    • Example: A young volunteer working with a youth organization in Romania to develop sports programs for at-risk youth.

  2. Traineeships and JobsESC also offers professional traineeships and job placements in various sectors. This provides young people with valuable work experience and helps them develop skills for their future careers.

    • Example: A participant working in an international sports event organizing team or contributing to educational programs focused on youth development.

  3. Solidarity ProjectsYoung people can create and lead their own solidarity projects in their local communities. These projects focus on addressing local needs and creating a direct impact, such as organizing workshops, sports events, or campaigns to raise awareness about social issues.

    • Example: A project in Slovakia that organizes a series of fitness workshops to promote mental health and well-being among local youth.

  2. Register Your Profile:Create a profile on the European Youth Portal to be considered for ESC opportunities. This profile will allow you to apply for various projects and connect with organizations seeking volunteers.

  3. Apply for a Project:Once your profile is set up, you can apply for projects that match your interests, skills, and goals. Make sure to check the deadlines and application requirements for each project.

The European Solidarity Corps offers opportunities year-round, but it’s important to keep track of deadlines for specific projects. Be sure to check the deadlines for applications and funding on the official ESC portal.

    For projects starting in the second half of 2025, applications should be submitted by March 2025.
